Local Loves – Perth Northern Suburbs (City of Joondalup)
The City of Joondalup is located only 20 minutes north of Perth. With 17 kilometres of coastline, there are some beautiful beaches to discover such as Sorrento, Mullaloo and you can’t forget the Marmion Marine Park for snorkelling or diving.
Besides the numerous natural bushland reserves and lakes to explore the northern suburbs has a great vibe to it. There are plenty of tourist attractions and wonderful businesses to discover.
Aloha Surf House
Do you love a bit of adventure? Aloha Surfhouse is more than indoor surfing. It is an awesome venue where you can surf, rock climb, take a yoga class, shop in the boutique or simply just chill out in the cafe.
Strap on your helmet and the instructor will help you onto the 2-foot wave. Once you get your balance he simply lets go of your board and you are hanging ten!
If rock climbing is more your thing then try one of the 20 bright oddly shaped walls. Simply clip your harness onto the auto-belay system and start climbing the 9-metre obstacle. Once you have reached the top simply let go and let the auto-belay system glide you back down to the ground.
A fantastic day out for the whole family!
I have followed Bloom Yoga since the early days when Sara ran her business out of a local school gym. Once a week my big pregnant belly and I would take a yoga class. It helped me practice mindful breathing, movement and relaxation.
We all know that yoga is good for strengthening and toning but I found that it also helped me mentally. After the birth of my daughter, I signed up for Mum and Baby Yoga. Suffering from postnatal anxiety I can not tell you how much this class helped me. I was able to relax and connect with JJ, something that had not happened previously.
Bloom Yoga has since grown and moved into a studio in Kingsley. They offer a wide range of Yoga classes from the beginner to the more advanced.
Nourish and Feed
Want a healthy snack on the go? Are the kids asleep in the car and your caffeine addiction has kicked in? If you answered yes to these then I have the perfect place for you. Nourish and Feed is a healthy drive-thru in Duncraig and they make a mean coffee!
What I love the most is that they support local farmers. The ingredients are free range, fresh and come from local suppliers. Everything is made from scratch daily so you know that you are getting a fresh and tasty meal.
The menu changes regularly and they do their bit for the environment by using eco-friendly packaging. The staff are always friendly and ready to take your order.
Weigh ‘n Pay
Last year I participated in Plastic Free July and found the perfect store to help me cut back on single-use plastics. Weigh ‘n Pay is a bulk food store where you can pick up local products and avoid plastic. Simply take your own containers to get filled or use the paper bags they have on offer.
What I love is that you can buy exactly what you need for a recipe. No more buying a huge packet from the supermarket to only throw out the leftovers as it goes out of date.
They have a massive range and you can even take your jars there to get recycled. It is all about making small changes to help our environment.
