Why ‘casing’?
It just sounds better than stalking and with ‘Case’ for a surname it more than works for me!
Why the mystery?
You could say, I like to keep my options open. The mystery being… you just never know what, why or where we will be ‘casing’ next.
For the most part, I like to keep things a tad mysterious and I don’t like to be pigeonholed or niched down. I’m a mystery shopper, market researcher, professional reviewer, virtual assistant (VA) and online publisher from way back. 1998 to be exact. When I taught myself programming and kick-started my online publishing endeavours following a redundancy when I was on maternity leave with my first child.
A lot has changed since then. Blogging and social media have evolved. Picture-perfect influencers tend to rule the roost and I find myself rolling my eyes at a lot of that side of social media town.
On the plus side, Agent Mystery Case (AMC) has allowed me to bring all my acquired skills and some, to the social media table, equipping me with the necessary skills to expand on my VA and review work, as well as launch several online initiatives. I’ve worked with some fabulous brands and creatives over the years and AMC has been a big part of those collaborations.
As AMC continues to evolve and be a great place to test the waters, I’m slowly starting to appreciate that I have a tendency to approach things a little differently to most and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Being a little different, I’ve always avoided following someone else’s success formula. Most of the time it works for me. It’s this approach that had me one of the top ranking bloggers (if not the top ranking blogger at one point) in Perth for 2014, 2015 and 2016. It also had AMC paying for itself and earning a small income from the get-go.
What started out as a personal blog back in 2012, with style challenges, reviews (beauty, food, film & more), our Worth Casing Blog Awards, The Business of Blogging, my weekly confessions and giveaways galore, is now much more. 2016 saw us move away from monitoring stats, dropping some of our existing lineup/audience and limiting sponsored content. I also became more passionate and involved with my charity event work, working as an ambassador of sorts for Breast Cancer Care WA.
Let me entertain you…
In 2017 AMC evolved into a dedicated review, giveaway and lifestyle website. Reviewing everything from travel, events, theatre, films, food, books, products and more. We also launched On the Bookcase our virtual book club, Flick Fix for the film lovers and our Aussie Giveaway Club for our comping fans.
Going forward, sponsored posts as well as advertising will continue to be limited and at my discretion with a focus on supporting local brands and small businesses, especially ones that support local charities or align with our ‘Something New’ bucket list project and community. You may also see a few tweaks to the lineup later in the year and the occasional guest reviewer.
For the most part though, it’s generally me front and centre doing what I do best in terms of keeping it real and relevant, with reviews that hopefully keep you entertained rather than influenced.
