Aussie Giveaway Linkup – October

Our monthly Aussie Giveaway Linkup… now with added co-hosts!

A pinch and a punch for the first of the month or as I prefer to think of it a poke and a grope… which really does sounds all kinds of wrong if not taken in the right context. That context is the monthly reminder I like to give myself (& everyone else) to check your breasts!

With a family history of breast (and ovarian) cancer, the 1st of the month is not only a reminder to check my breasts for changes but being my birthday month (2 October), it is also a timely reminder that my annual mammogram is now due.

This particular birthday now has me at the same age my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully due to early detection, my mother is a breast cancer survivor. Where I’ve had friends that haven’t been so lucky, which just highlights and brings home to me how important taking your breast care into your own hands (literally) each month, is so important.

I don’t know about you but I’m a big believer that charity begins at home and in the home. Setting a clear example to my girls about being charitable. This doesn’t necessarily mean supporting charities as such but when I’m able to, that is what I do.

With so many charities to choose from it is hard to know where to start. For me, I like to choose one or two charities close to home, supporting them not just through personal finances, when the budget allows but also here on the blog. As well as promoting fundraising events, I try when I can to volunteer my time.

With a family history and three teen daughters, finding a cure for breast cancer is definitely close to my heart. Which is why I try and support events that raise funds for finding a cure. Just as important to me are organisations such as Breast Cancer Care WA, who provide breast cancer patients and their families with practical support here in Perth.

In its second year, Spring Day at the Races is the perfect mix of live racing and premium hospitality all the while supporting a worthwhile cause close to my heart. So you can imagine, I’m super excited to be once again supporting this fabulous event and Breast Cancer Care WA this year.

Even if you aren’t completely into horse racing and don’t really know what to do when it comes to placing a bet (like myself), it’s such a wonderful and fashionable day out at Ascot, supporting a worthwhile cause.

The event this year falls on our 21st Wedding Anniversary (12 November), so all going to plan and hubby isn’t required to head out to sea for a month with work, it will be the perfect event to kick start our anniversary celebrations and I’m hoping you can join us…

Breast Cancer Care WA | Spring day at the Races | Perth Fundraising

This year, guests will indulge in unlimited gourmet canapés throughout the day and enjoy free flowing bubbles, wine, beer and soft drinks. Entertainment will be in the form of live music thanks to local Jazz band Bonnie Scott Duo and a range of chef demonstrations from some of Perth’s elite restaurants.

The day will be one of celebrations, fun and indulgence thanks to a premium VIP marquee that will deliver the best live racing experience. Guests will be front and centre during Fashions on the Field.

Everyone attending will have the opportunity to win some incredible prizes by way of raffles, sweeps and auctions (to the value of $40,000) on the day.

Even better than that… EVERY dollar raised is going to my favourite local grassroots charity, Breast Cancer Care WA. Funds raised will ensure free nursing, counselling and financial support is available to everyone affected by breast cancer in WA.

“Without the support of the WA community, we could not continue to provide our unique and specialised services. The funds raised will help us to provide personalised emotional, practical and financial support at no charge, not only to those diagnosed with breast cancer but their family also” Zoe McAlpine, CEO of Breast Cancer Care WA

Frocktober is the other initiative I like to get behind each and every year. Although, anyone that follows the blog would know, I’m not one for being in front of the camera. So you won’t see me signing up for ‘face of Frocktober’ any time soon.

Instead, I tend to get behind this fab intiative, that supports the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, in other ways. This year, three of my favourite Perth style bloggers (The Illusive FemmeThe Tangible Blog and The Style Within), are official ambassadors for Frocktober. As well as sharing their daily Frocktober endeavours on their Instagram feeds and blogs, they are joining forces for a designer mystery event on October 22nd.

While I can hardly wait to share all the juicy details for this event, my lips are firmly sealed until further notice (hopefully next week). The only thing I can say right now… I will be there with bells on and you’ll probably find me guarding manning the prize table. Actually thinking about it, that’s probably a really bad idea, considering I actually want to WIN WIN WIN all the prizes.

Which brings me to this month’s Aussie Giveaway Linkup (finally)… and a little NEWS!

Before we get to the nitty gritty of linking up your giveaways this month, just a reminder that we have two of my gorgeous blogging freinds co-hosting right now. Kell from All Mum Said and Jody from Six Little Hearts. Both bloggers know how to throw a giveaway or ten, so make sure you head over and case their posts as well.

Also, our Aussie Review Crew linkup and giveaway kicks off soon. If you are a review blogger or thinking about trying your hand at review blogging, keep an eye on the blog next week.

    • Thanks. I’m going all out for my birthday this year, which is unusual for me. The new car didn’t arrive in time but it shouldn’t be more than a week or two off. #youonlyliveonce
