I’ve been winning competitions without even really trying from an early age. The first was a Heinz baby competition over 40 years ago. I have no real memory of what I had to do to win or if there was a prize for being crowned the cutest baby in all the land (well our small town show) but I do remember hearing stories about it for years to come. There may even be a photo somewhere in the archives.

Soon after that win, my mother’s name was pulled out of a lucky draw, winning her a rather expensive dream kitchen and probably set in concrete for the rest of the, now envious, family that you really have to be in it to win it.

We’ve had a number of big wins in our family over the years. My brother scratched himself off $100k, on a one-off impromptu scratchie card purchase when he was at the newsagency purchasing something else. He couldn’t believe his eyes and showed the winning ticket to my father, who promptly declared it was void because he had scratched all the options off and he strongly believed you were only meant to scratch three. The lottery office soon confirmed the win and the fact that my father had no clue. How lucky my brother didn’t take his word for it!

There was also the time my sister won a new car (on my birthday) through her local soccer raffle. For me though, no really big wins. I suppose I just don’t enter the right competitions or buy scratchies.

A couple of years back, I was lucky enough to win a year’s supply of Tim Tams just by purchasing a packet and taking the time to enter online. You might be surprised to discover just how many Tim Tams make up a year’s supply. I was.  In a house full of chocoholics that love their Tim Tams, the 24 packs that arrived didn’t last more than a few months. Which is probably lucky given they had a six month expiry date on them.

These days, I don’t really have the time or inclination to go looking too far or hard for competitions, which is why I’m loving our monthly linkup. So many great giveaways all in the one handy place. I tend to prefer giveaways that are quick and easy to enter that don’t require me to jump through too many hoops or give too much personal information out. Which is how I tend to approach all giveaways here on AMC.

Running competitions can be a whole lot of hard work. Depending on where you reside and who you have entering your giveaway, there are rules and regulations you need to abide by. Keeping the prize value to a certain amount and running a game of skill seems to be an easy way to keep everyone happy and avoid breaking any laws in other states.

One of the easiest ways to host a game of skill is through a 25-words-or-less competition. One of the easiest ways to win a lot of the great giveaways linking up each week is to be on the top of your game in 25-words-or-less. Unfortunately, I don’t do too well with these types of giveaways. It’s a lot like wordless Wednesday each week where I have far too many words on the page to be considered wordless.

My 25-words-or-less entries need a lot of work which is where the gorgeous Emily from Emhawkerblog comes in with how to win 25-words-or-less competitions. Pop over and have a quick read and then head back here and start entering this month’s giveaways.

  1. What a lucky bunch your family are!! My best win was an all expenses paid honeymoon in Vanuatu which I won in a bridal mag 50 words or less. I couldn’t believe my luck! It was an amazing holiday. Holidays are even better when they’re free!
Not feeling lucky today however – I just put my back out when I was putting on my undies!! ? Now I am stuck in bed for who knows how long. Major pain. Could do with a comp win right now…

  2. The biggest thing I ever won was my trip to Perth at the end of 2014, something that was a total fluke and I had actually forgotten I’d even entered! Aside from that I’m not that lucky when it comes to comps, so I’m pretty sure it will probably be another 32 years before I win anything as big as the Perth trip again, lol! And I such at 25 words or less comps too, I definitely need to read Emily’s post!

    • I didn’t know you were part of team IBOT. Well if I did, I’d completely forgotten. Still can’t believe you fluked that trip over here. It was so great meeting you. I’m hoping to finally get a date for my Sydney trip and I’m hopefully bringing another blogger with me.

  3. My Giveaway ends tomorrow but I’ll pop it on anyway! I usually enter a lot of competitions, so I get frequent wins, but lately I’ve been blogging more so have barely had the time to enter. I won a fair bit last December though, the biggest being a smart TV and iPad mini 4 from a competition our local shopping centre was running. Yay!

  4. LOL you are so lucky! I’ve only ever won first prize in a raffle once at Carols By Candlelight. I got all excited and thought I was gonna win a plasma or something. It was a bag of old shampoo, conditioner, gel and a vibrating razor from the local chemist. WINNING!!

  5. I have been spookily lucky over the last few months and touch wood it continues! Recent wins include a pair of NineWest flats, a big gift pack from Champagne Cartel, a sarong from Styling Curvy and a $500 voucher to spend at Farfetch.com which I have duly done this morning since they announced free shipping 🙂
