Each week we will be looking for ways to feature the talented bloggers that have made our Worth Casing list for 2014.
This week we catch up with the gorgeous Amy Zempilas from Perth lifestyle blog Absolute Amy and talk about the business of blogging.
Tell us about your blog and why you started blogging?
I started my blog after I became a mum for a bit of fun and to have a happy, creative outlet and space. I also wanted to have a platform to share ideas and connect with other women. I couldn’t decide on exactly what I wanted to blog about, so I chose to just run with anything and everything I was passionate about from being a mum, fashion, recipes, events, beauty products, travel, home wares and much more.
What can we expect to see on Absolute Amy for 2014?
More of the same! Recipes, home wares, kids things, fashion and events. I never really plan ahead that much, I just share what I’m loving in my life and what’s inspiring me and making me happy.
Do you have a favourite place or dedicate space for blogging?
I don’t have a dedicated place for blogging right now, but hopefully someday! I blog whenever I have a spare moment whether that’s at the dining room table or kitchen bench.
What have been your blogging highlights and biggest challenges?
Highlights have been meeting AMAZING people, including other bloggers and getting really wonderful feedback from my readers. That means the world to me. I’ve also really enjoyed working with great brands like Karrinyup and Target, I hope to continue to collaborate with brands that are a great fit for me and my readers. My biggest challenges would be learning anything technical or tricky as I am hopeless, and also finding time to blog with two children under three, especially when I am crazy sleep deprived and my hubby works away a lot!
Who inspires you and what’s on your Worth Casing list when it comes to other blogs/bloggers?
Great question! There are so many bloggers that inspire me. I love Andrea from And Andrea. She was one of the first people to really encourage me to start a blog. She told me to just go for it, so I will always be grateful to her. I also love Kelly Exeter who is a fellow Perth girl, a talented writer and also my blog designer. Nikki from Styling You is the ultimate professional and super lovely person. I’ve contacted her on a number of occasions for advice and she has been so generous with her time. I also love Mrs Woog for always making me laugh and just putting it out there and not caring what anyone else thinks.
What are your must have tools or resources when it comes to blogging?
My can’t live without blogging tools are my Mac Book Air, iPhone and Picmonkey which I use to edit my photos. I’m still learning when it comes to all the technical stuff and still don’t consider myself a serious blogger!
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about starting their own blog?
Just do it! Go for it, find your own unique voice and share from the heart. It helps to use beautiful images, even better if you take them yourself. Don’t over think blog posts, just choose an idea and run with it! If you want to be active on social media, make sure you encourage other bloggers by sharing their posts. You can’t expect people to champion you if you don’t champion others.
Finally, if you weren’t in the business of blogging what would you be doing?
I’m a proud wife and full time mum, so if I wasn’t blogging – I’d be busy enough with two little ones under three! If I wasn’t doing that, I’d be doing something in the media or with children. They are just so much fun.
