I’ve been a high tea lover for as long as I can remember, and I really enjoy trying new high tea venues – so when I was invited along for a high tea experience at Duchess at Claremont Quarter, I couldn’t wait to check it out!
We kicked off our high tea with a glass of sparkling wine and sparkling water, then we were presented with a three tiered cake stand filled with ribbon sandwiches, mini quiches, sweet and savoury scones, mini cupcakes and mini macarons. Everything was perfectly portioned and there was lots to enjoy.
The Duchess’s decor is lavish and opulent with crystal chandeliers, candles, fresh flowers, a gorgeous tea display and a biscuit and cake stand which makes it an ideal venue for an elegant high tea.

Which is why it was disappointing that the customer service was sub-par. We were finishing up our high tea when we realised we hadn’t been offered or served a cup of tea. We wanted to check with our hostess, but we couldn’t get her attention and eventually I went up to the bar to query this when I was told that there were three high tea options.

You can choose to have high tea with a cup of tea, a glass of sparkling wine or a glass of champagne. The confusion could have been avoided completely if someone had explained this to us at the beginning of our high tea. In saying that, we should have been asked if we would like to have any more drinks during our two hour high tea session regardless.

If Duchess focuses a little more attention on the customer service component of their high tea and make more of a fuss of their beautiful ‘The Seventh Duchess‘ tea selections, it will be be excellent.
I’m looking forward to heading back to Duchess to try one of their espresso martini’s. I’ve been told they are amazing!
What’s your favourite spot for high tea?
