CABARET ROYALTY AND RISING STARS LIGHT UP DOWNSTAIRS AT THE MAJ 2019 SEASON
With Australian cabaret’s biggest names – including multiple Helpmann Award winner Michael Griffiths and the living legend of Les Girls, Carlotta – alongside our very own sensation Jessie Gordon and the Perth Cabaret Collective (to name a few), there’s plenty to get excited about with the remainder of the 2019 Downstairs at The Maj season.
For me, who attends a lot of theatre with the review hat on, this venue is one of my favourites for date night, especially when the review hat comes off. It’s a little more intimate than most other venues with cosy cabaret-style seating and the pre-show hospitality on offer from the Downstairs Bar. Most importantly though, is the high calibre of productions on offer, which means you are always in for an interesting night out. With hubby and myself trying to outdo each other in the date night stakes, I’m always on a winner with Downstairs at The Maj.
WIN WIN | HE’S EVERY WOMAN
Speaking winning… next up in the season lineup is an encore of the phenomenal FRINGE WORLD 2019 Cabaret Weekly Award-winning gender-bending tribute to the world’s greatest divas. He’s Every Woman kicks off from July 11 -13 and thanks to Downstairs at The Maj we have a double pass* up for grabs for one lucky reader.
He’s Every Woman stars NZ Music Award-winning pianist Jamie Burgess (Impromptunes) and Green Room Award nominated vocalist Justin Clausen (Midsumma Festival, seen recently on The Voice), who The Advertiser called “a first-class vocal duo” and Theatrepeople guarantee “will have you up and dancing – 5 stars“.
You’ll find it hard to fight the urge to sing along as they belt out the most famous female vocalists’ greatest hits and I’m guessing I’ll want to hit up the nearest Karaoke bar for my turn after the show. Here’s a little taste of what you’re in for… try not to sing along!

LAST NIGHT… we headed Downstairs at The Maj for He’s Every Woman and I thought it appropriate to pop back here and update our giveaway post. Really hoping our winner had just as much fun last night as we did.
Starring Diva with a difference Justin Clausen accompanied by Jamie Burgess, the talented musical duo are part cabaret, part comedy with what felt like a strong pulling of the heartstrings therapy session in between. You’re certainly in for one hell of a roller coaster ride with this pair.
A tribute to some of our most loved divas, the highlight for me was Justin’s impressive Cher impersonation together with his spine-tingling hitting the high notes of Celine Dion and the depths of divas Tina Arena, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston and more. So much more.
He’s Every Woman is a fabulous night out from start to finish, even with the overly enthusiastic audience members singing along more ferociously as the set went on.
Now showing Downstairs at The Maj for a further two nights. Do yourself a favour… grab tickets while you still can and pack your favourite diva’s greatest hits to belt along to on the way home.
4 worth casing stars out of 5!
