FLAWS & ALL?

If you’ve been playing along with me on IG this week, you could be forgiven for thinking I’ve got a Warts Flaws & All theme going on with our latest giveaway. When I’m not figuratively throwing my double chin under the bus by way of videoed beauty treatment reviews, I’ve been getting my Fringe on with a few of my favourites.

There are an incredible amount of world class shows this year, it’s been a real challenge picking and choosing my Fringe battles, especially among our local performers. Considering what I’ve been over sharing getting up to in social media land of late with all my raw and real, warts and all posts, it was an absolute given that Flaws & All was going to end up on the top of my must see list for this year’s Fringe World Festival.

A raw, brave and beautiful circus-comedy about one woman’s flaws and all.

Perth’s own Dawn Pascoe is the beauty and brains behind Natural Wings (Winner of the WA Circus Award at Fringe World 2015 and 2016) and invites audiences to witness exquisite choreography on the ground and high in the air with her Flaws & All show delivering a stunning and quirky combination of aerial dance and physical comedy.

“I’m fascinated by the notion that we try to hide our flaws, our failures, our cellulite, our notso-perfect lives which got me thinking: why not embrace these flaws? And how do I show this message using just my body, my creativity, two trapezes, a diabolo, an evolving costume and a cake?,” Pasco says of Flaws & All.

From dress sense to having a balanced life, to getting drunk at a party and doing inappropriate things, to eating the whole cake instead of just one slice… we all have our flaws and Pascoe celebrates them with this feel good show!

With a background in circus including a Diploma from Circo Arts NZ (2005) and Performing Arts BA Theatre Arts from WAAPA (2003), Pascoe is a choreographic specialist in aerial dance, as well as a rigger, performer, director, devisor and artistic director of Natural Wings, a production company she founded in 2005.

Pascoe has toured all over Australia and abroad, including Sirkus Landsby in Norway, Canadian Street Art Festivals, Irish Aerial Dance Festival and the World of Wearable Art in NZ. With Fringe World often over-run by international acts, this local lady with her heart on her sleeve is definitely one act not to be missed.

“Poignant narrative punctuated by dazzling physical displays… Seeing Pascoe step up to a trapeze and her feet leave the floor is akin to seeing a creature leaving one element to demonstrate a familiarity and freedom in joyous release in another, as when a flopping fish is returned to water or a waddling bird takes flight ” – Australian Stage Online ★★★★
