Thanks to The Alliance de Perth we have 2 in-season double passes to the 2017 Alliance Française French Film Festival, up for grabs.
2017 Alliance Française French Film Festival
Now in its 28th season, the festival will showcase a host of thrilling, contemporary movies and documentaries exemplifying the very best of France’s vibrant film industry with a programme that will celebrate both established and emerging talent.
Proudly presented by the Alliance Française in association with the Embassy of France in Australia, Unifrance Films and the generous patronage of distinguished Principal Sponsor, Renault Australia. This tantalising feast of French cinema, promises to captivate audiences by transporting them to an idyllic sojourn with this evocative and most romantic of cultures.
Brimming with highlights, the 2017 festival presents over 40 films, unveiling the artistry of renowned directors ranging from Emmanuelle Bercot, Jean-Pierre & Luc Dardenne, Nicole Garcia, Benoît Jacquot and Mia Hansen-Løve, to Philippe Lioret, Martin Provost, Jérôme Salle, Bertrand Tavernier and Roschdy Zem.
Treats awaiting audiences include It’s Only the End of the World (Juste la fin du monde), which garnered director Xavier Dolan the Grand Prize of the Jury at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. Multi-award winning Things to Come (L’avenir) starring Isabelle Huppert and the deliciously comedic Slack Bay (Ma Loute).
Planetarium, from writer/director Rebecca Zlotowski in which Natalie Portman and Lily-Rose Depp portray sisters surviving as mediums in 1930s Paris, is on the top of my list. As is The Odyssey (L’Odyssée), starring Lambert Wilson and Audrey Tautou as famed oceanic adventurers Jacques-Yves and Simone Cousteau.
Director Anne Fontaine’s haunting 1940s drama The Innocents (Les innocentes) and The Dancer (La Danseuse), the story of Loïe Fuller, the toast of the Folies Bergères and embodiment of the Art Nouveau movement.
The 2017 Alliance Française French Film Festival comes to Cinema Paradiso, Luna on SX and Windsor Cinema 15 March – 5 April.
SYDNEY 7 – 30 March
MELBOURNE 8 – 30 March
CANBERRA 9 March – 4 April
PERTH 15 March – 5 April

I love Marion Cotillard, so would love to see From the land of the Moon.
I should have mentioned that we were treated to that film for the media launch. It’s definitely worth seeing. Such an intriguing film.
Planetarium sounds intriguing being set in 1930s Paris.
Would love to be transported back to that era. I’m hoping to see that film myself.
Farewell My Queen because I wouldn’t mind being part of a French Revolution.
That does look like a great film.

Lost In Paris sounds brilliant. Paris is a complicated city – certainly not all pretty lights and romance! This film seems to put a different spin on the usual tourist story.
This film appeals to me as well.
‘A Bag of Marbles’- beautiful and stirring theme aside, stylistically it seems quite similar to one of my favourite films – The Bicycle Thieves. Hopefully seeing this film will drag me back to when I fell in love with that movie.
Off to google a bit more on The Bicycle Thieves and re look at A Bag of Marbles. Thanks for entering.
HEAL THE LIVING
HEAL THE LIVING… I love that invoke a reality that cuts deep into the visceral depths of humanity…
It does look like an intense film. Gosh there really are so many great films this year.
A haunting drama sounds like my thing. I would see The Innocents if I won.

It’s high on my list. Thanks for entering Heather.
The Dancer has me intrigued, as does anything from the Art Nouveau period.
So many great films this year. The Dancer is on my list as well. Thanks for entering.
It’s only the end of the world, due to the touches of black comedy and dysfunction.
I’m umming and ahhing about that one. Only for the fact, I have enough dysfunction from my extended family.
I’d say bonjour to THINGS TO COME,
For this francophile this looks like a lot of fun,
Plus anything Isabelle Huppert is in is divine,
Making any film she stars in shine!
Things to come does sound like a lot of fun. Thanks for entering Chris.
DAGUERROTYPE – a psychedelic horror by an acclaimed Japanese director of this genre, doing his first French language film – what an intriguing combination!
It certainly does sound like an intriguing combination. Thanks for entering Callum.
The Midwife reads and looks wonderful. With two acclaimed French actresses in Catherine Frot and Catherine Deneuve I am sure they will not disappoint. An interesting story and keen to see what happens. I like too that they play strong older women and this is something I can relate to as well.
I’ll have to take another look at that one. If only there was time to see all the films this year. Such a wonderful lineup.
I so wanna watch the winner of the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes Film Festival – “It’s Only The End of the World”

Xavier Dolan’s latest – It’s Only The End Of The World, I’ve enjoyed every one of his films since How I Killed My Mother and with a huge cast of France’s top acting talent, I’m dying to see this.
It’s definitely one of my must see films for this year’s festival. Thanks for entering.
I’m looking forward to Slack Bay, I’m a big fan of director Bruno Dumont and I’m fascinated by how someone who usually makes ultra dark gritty arthouse movies is going to fare with a comedic french farce.
It should be an interesting film. I’ve added that one to my list for much the same reasons. Thanks for entering.
Things To Come, director Mia Hansen Love has made a string of inspirational feminist movies and her partnership with Isabelle Huppert must make for French movie magic
Great choice Alex. Thanks for entering. We will be selecting our winners today.
