Our latest giveaway is guaranteed to put a smile on your dial…

‘WE LAUGHED UNTIL THE TEARS RAN DOWN OUR FACES’ JOANNA LUMLEY

Winner of Best New Comedy at London’s Olivier Awards, The Play That Goes Wrong is currently playing to packed houses in the West End and is making its debut on Broadway this year.

Thankfully we no longer need a long haul flight to see this hilarious show, with Mischief Theatre bringing its comedy masterpiece to Australia for the first time, kicking off in Melbourne from 22nd February. I’m told from a number of reliable sources on the comedy front that The Play That Goes Wrong is guaranteed to leave you aching with laughter and literally rolling around on the floor laughing, if your theatre seats give you that much room to maneuver.

I don’t know about you but I could certainly do with a good laugh right now and the trailer for this one has certainly peaked my interest. I just can’t wait for the play to head to Perth later in the year. Although, I’m not so secretly hoping to head over and case the play with our new Melbourne review blogger (callout coming soon) when it opens next month. What a play to review!

THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG

The play introduces ‘The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society’ who are attempting to put on a 1920s murder mystery, but as the title suggests, everything that can go wrong…does, as the accident-prone thespians battle on against all the odds to get to their final curtain call.

Starring a bunch of ‘would be’ Australian thespians including Logie award-winner Brooke Satchwell, Darcy Brown, Francine Cain, Adam Dunn, Luke Joslin, George Kemp, Jordan Prosser, Nick Simpson-Deeks, Tammy Weller plus original UK cast member and current Mischief Theatre actor, James Marlowe.

The Play That Goes Wrong is a highly physical comedy packed with finely-tuned farce and slapstick humour delivered with split-second timing and ambitious daring.

  1. To take our minds of a builder who is running not one, but two and a half years behind schedule. And I’d take my partner in crime, also known as my husband.

  2. Laughter makes you live longer, could do with a laugh for the fun and frivolity. Plus one will be my wife, otherwise I’ll be in the doghouse.

  3. I need a good laugh to distract me from the fact that I am the only person in the office that didn’t take time over christmas! I would take my mum as my plus one

  4. Sounds fab but I will be overseas when this play comes to Brisbane. I love going to the theatre. It is one of life’s pleasures.

    • It does sound pretty fab. I was lucky enough to attend the opening of Singing in the Rain here in Perth for NYE. Now that show was all kinds of fabulous and the perfect way to see out the old year on a high.

  5. Oh I’d love to see this. Just saw Fawlty Towers with my husband on Saturday. The kids and I got him (and me lol) two tickets for his birthday as the TV series is one that he loves. It was great! I could do with a good laugh because all my health issues get me down. I’d take my girlfriend who also has health issues – but far worse than mine as hers are life threatening. I would fly to Melbourne as I haven’t been there since 2012 and love the place. Any excuse to go for another visit! 🙂 #TeamLovinLife

    • I completely missed Fawlty Towers when it came to Perth. Sorry to hear about your health issues. Here if you need to chat/vent.

I love Melbourne too. I’ve had 3 blogging trips in the past 18 months. Can’t wait to head back.

  6. Oh wow, I so want to see this play – it looks Amazing! We were wandering around the West End in London only this time last week trying to get into a show, and I saw this and thought it looked fantastic. I can’t wait for it to come to Perth 🙂

  7. I’d go to Melbourne for this! This looks like SOOOO much fun. My husband and I could do with a big belly laugh right now (as well as a get away on our own) because the year has been a tad crap so far. Appliances breaking down, our dog in a critical condition with paralysis tick, his eldest daughter with more cancer checks, the stress of getting out my new magazine, the husband’s work issues …. let’s just saying I’m not my usual positive self right now .

    What a great opportunity Raych. x o

    • I was actually hoping that if I get tickets for the Canberra show, you might be able to cover it for me?

So sorry to hear you are not your positive self. Sending positives vibes for your daughter and your dog. You’ll have to tell me more about your new magazine? I’ve been completely out of the loop online, focusing on my massive to do list. Trying to get a jump start on the new year and find some much needed clarity on how I want to proceed.

Could do with a stunt double or a business partner right now. So many exciting options to consider and just know I need to pick and choose my battles.

  8. I’m putting my hand up for this one, even though I’m in Sydney. Flights to Melbourne are so cheap right now and I could certainly do with a night out and a good laugh after a more than trying 2016.

  9. Laughter is the best medicine and I’m finding my medicine a little hard to swallow. This play sounds hilarious and just what the doctor order.

  10. I would take my bestie, she has been through a rough patch on the home front and could do with a good laugh. Couldn’t we all!

  11. PICK ME! I would take my hubby and we would make a night of it. We haven’t had a child free night out since our baby arrived, six months ago.

  12. My holidays weren’t nearly long enough. I could do with a night out or even better a staycation in Melbourne. Starting with an hilarious play and ending with a long sleep in with my husband.

  13. I’ve been wanting to see this play, ever since my friend in the UK raved about it. Super pleased it is coming to Melbourne. If I won, I would take my mother. We could both do with a good laugh, we had a tough Christmas following the loss of a friend to cancer.

  14. I’ve had a crap start to the year and could certainly do with some cheering up. I would bring one of my girlfriends along with me.

  15. Thanks so much to everyone that has commented. We’ve been working behind the scenes updating our website this past week, which means a lot of guest comments have gone straight to spam. Rest assured we have all comments and will approve them once the update of the site is in order.

  16. I’m always hesitant about plays like this. Worried that there be an element of audience participation. My friend on the other hand would love this show. We could both do with a good laugh. 2017 hasn’t exactly been great so far.

    • I know exactly how you feel. We were gifted tickets to something a little out there and had what I thought were very comfortable, away from the line of fire, seats in the back row. What a mistake that was.

  17. I was glad to see the back of 2016. I’m wanting to laugh more in 2017, so this show would be perfect for me. I would bring my hubby along.

  18. I NEED a fun night out, I’m close to turning into a crazy cat lady following my latest breakup. I would take a girlfriend or a date.

  19. I’m not in Melbourne but would like to enter and gift to my sister and her hubby who live there. They would love this play and don’t often get a chance for a night out as funds are tight following major health issues last year.

  20. What a wonderful opportunity to immerse my whole body, to relieve physical tension and stress with a heartfelt laugh. My plus one (My Mum) and I enjoy the benefits of a contagious laugh.

  21. Life is far to short not to have a laugh;
the show will be good, but I won’t be looking for an autograph.
    My husband and I are free that night you can be sure;
with free tickets who could ask for more.

  22. My best friend LIZ is always stressed but so easy to muster and
A good daily laugh together is our ultimate WRINKLE BUSTER!!!

  23. Would LOVE to see this play.

Would also LOVE to tell a joke or funny rhyme to explain why- but I think it would GO WRONG…..

    haha 😉

  24. MY RELATIONSHIP WAS SAVED AND RESTORED BY DR ROBINSON………………..KATE HENSHAW
