Perth GIVEAWAY | Spanish Film Festival 2016

Spanish Film Festival 2016 Perth

With the Spanish Film Festival returning to Perth from 21 April to 11 May, I’m hosting a little Spanish fling in the way of a giveaway this week.

Thanks to Luna Palace we have 2 double passes up for grabs.

With some of the best films from Spain and Latin America showcasing this year, I’ve been having trouble choosing which films should be on the top of my worth casing list. There is everything from dramas, romantic comedies, thrillers and even a documentary about the Barcelona Football Club which to me may be more Mr C’s thing but the trailer certainly has me intrigued.

If only there was enough time to see them all. The special event screenings like opening night are always on the top of my list each year and this year is no different.

To help me narrow down my choices I recently caught up with Adriana Begovish from Anarchy PR the Festival Publicist here in Perth. Adriana has rather reluctantly given me her top five picks in this year’s line-up. I say reluctantly, only due to the quality of films this year which to me, makes selecting a top five a difficult task.

ADRIANA’S SPANISH FILM FESTIVAL TOP FIVE

SPANISH AFFAIR 2

Spanish Affair 2 | Spanish Film Festival 2016

This is our Opening Night film and the sequel to the box-office smash hit SPANISH AFFAIR which opened last year’s festival. It’s an hilarious comedy, full of subtle and not-so-subtle cultural jokes, guaranteed to please all ages.

BARCA DREAMS

Germany Soccer Champions League Final | Spanish Film Festival | Barca Dreams

I’ll be completely honest, I’m not a huge fan of soccer, but this doco is pretty amazing! It tells the story of the Barcelona Football Club – easily one of the most popular sporting teams in the world, providing behind-the-scenes interviews with key players and coaches. Definitely one for soccer fanatics!

MY BIG NIGHT

My big night | Spanish Film Festival

This is from the director of WITCHING AND BITCHING which featured in last year’s festival and was definitely a highlight for me. The film centres around the taping of a New Year’s Eve television special where hundreds of people are locked in an industrial pavilion just outside of Madrid for weeks. The concept is quite bizarre but it’s very well done – as it focuses on major clashes between characters. The outcome is very funny/surreal!

TRUMAN

Spanish Film Festival | Truman - Camara & Darin + dog

A delicate story about the friendship between two men in the shadow of impending death. Sounds morbid, but it’s a comedy/drama that deals with the issue of dying with sensitivity and heart.

SHORT FILMS FROM THE HEART

Whilst not one film, this is a special aspect to the festival program where we are screening a selection of short films guaranteed to delight. There are eight from Spain and one from Mexico.

  1. I would love to go and see Truman as I would love to see how this special male friendship develops and unfolds. Dealing with cancer is not an easy topic and I would like to see how they go about this! For us all our time is finite, so best to make the most of our lives! Thanks, Anita Ozolins http://www.anitaozo.com

  2. Spanish Affair 2! So, one of my closest friends is currently in Spain, due home this weekend. I know she is going to find it hard to come home after two weeks of beautiful weather, scenery and food so I was thinking taking her to one of these movies might help wean her back in!

  3. Hard choice. I like rom-coms. My first choice would be Spanish Affair 2 but would you need to have seen Spanish Affair 1 for context? I would take my bff, for a girly night out.

    • I think you should be right. I like the odd romantic comedy too, although I generally have to drag hubby along kicking and screaming. The football movie would be more his scene.

  4. Would love to enter but I’m in Sydney. Would the tickets be valid and make it in time?
If I could enter, I’m in the mood for a comedy.

    • Hello stranger. Happy for you to enter. I’m actually coming to Sydney next week, but if you win I could express post tickets. The film festival ends May 1 in Sydney. Is there a particular film you are keen to see this year?

    • It does look interesting doesn’t it. Thanks for entering and so nice to see a new face here. We also have a mother’s day giveaway running, so pop back if you get the chance and enter that as well.

  5. I’m having trouble selecting just one film, with so many great choices this year. I would opt for the short films.

    • Have previous comment Melanie. Just having a few issues with the upped spam filter on comments. We had a nasty troll and needed to take measures in the interim to stop all comments hitting the blog first before moderation.

  6. Thanks to everyone that entered. Rest assured all entries made it through via email. We have left a message for our two winners. Our Mother’s day giveaway is ending tomorrow, so please head back and enter that one as well.
