I’m possibly sounding like a blogging cliché here but the latest person to join me for our IN THE BAG series, Kayte aka Mrs Woog from Woogsworld, really needs no introduction at all.

A personal blogger after my own heart. Kayte is one of my blogging idols and one of the main reasons I didn’t hit the delete button after my lack of a thigh gap attracted so much negative press here on the blog, thanks to the trolls that have nothing better to do be.

Personal blogging is a tough gig. You are pretty much spruiking yourself to the masses and that’s no easy feat. Kayte has not only weathered the personal blogging and social media storm highs and lows but remarkably come out the other side with a successful brand and a thriving community behind her blog.

I’m sure all of our readers all ready feel like they know you but just in case, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog?

I am a 42 year old mother of two, married to a very patient man. We live on the North Shore in Sydney, an area famed for big black 4WD’s, designer mongrel dogs that have some sort of poodle in them, and massive mortgages. But we live a simple life in a small art-deco house with a rescue cat called Chuy, who is 4 years old.

My blog was born out of my intense boredom that I went through when my kids were small. My favourite thing to do is laugh, which I try to do every day. I also am addicted to current affairs and news. And leopard print. Oh and dumplings.

If your everyday bag could talk, what would it say about you? How much does it weigh and are you game to share a photo of the contents?

My everyday bag is a black leather tote that I got for my birthday last year from my mate The Divine Ms. M. This is what it looked like today, a day where I had two meetings across town. It weighed a couple of kilos.

Nothing surprising in there I suppose. I am addicted to Santa Vittoria and I drink 2 bottles a day. I also carry around a lot of hearing aid batteries in case anyone runs out.  A couple of lippies, a couple of pens and always a notebook. If you can read upside down you will make out a pitch I put together. (An unsuccessful one as it turned out.) And of course, my GST tampons.

Tell us more about your upcoming holiday escapes. Will you be following the blogging mantra of photos or it didn’t happen or is it more a case of what happens on tour stays on tour? Would you consider escaping to Perth for a mystery adventure?

You know something? I never, ever put any restraints on sharing stuff on social media when it comes to holidays. Sometimes I feel like it, sometimes I don’t. But I am taking a very fun group of readers away to Bali in November, so who knows? And I would LOVE to visit Perth. I have never been.

What is your idea of the perfect date night and is this in sync with your husband’s ideal evening?

My perfect date night would probably see me at the QT Hotel in Sydney with Mr. Woog ordering in room service, having a bath and matching a movie. Does that make me kind of sad? Mr Woog would agree with me, as we do this a few times a year.

What’s currently on your Worth Casing list?

I will not lay my head down to die until I meet Maggie Beer in the flesh, so Maggie Beer is worth casing as is her superior ice-cream.  So your phone number is worth casing.

If you had a theme song what would it be and why?

Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen. I put it on when I am doubting myself and do a special interpretation dance around the house.

Tonight I’m gonna have myself a real good time
I feel alive and the world it’s turning inside out Yeah!
I’m floating around in ecstasy
So don’t stop me now don’t stop me
‘Cause I’m having a good time having a good time

  1. I’m with Mrs Woog on Maggie Beer- what a top notch lady. She is the sole reason I tried quince paste- I wouldn’t have bothered except that she dug it so I figured it was worth a red-hot go. She was right!

  2. The meter man just caught me doing my own interpretation dance to Queen! Oops! That’s what he gets for entering people’s properties to read the meter with no notice!

I can also relate to Mrs Woog’s love of dumplings – we’re off to Tim Ho Wan (dumpling heaven) for my son’s birthday tonight!

  3. Freddie will be in my head all day! Not such a bad thing. I also want dumplings but it doesn’t take much for me to want dumplings.

I don’t even know when I discovered Mrs Woog. A very long time ago now. I love how she rows her own boat in the blogosphere. Whenever I feel a bit lost with this whole blogging gig I often think “what would Mrs Woog do?” Usually the answer is go put on a soft pant and pour yourself a wine and I am happy with that!

  4. I am excellent at reading upside down. It really fcuks with people who have “surprise” job interview questions written on sheets in front of them. I am soo smooth 🙂

  5. What an awesome interview! I love Mrs Woog! She’s so authentically herself and not afraid to be so. She always adds a smile to my day! Love her boys too and Chuy the cat! I am sure she will get to meet Maggie Beer and they will get along like a house on fire for sure!! 🙂

  6. Ooh great theme song! I love it. I also cannot believe how tidy Mrs Woog’s handbag is and how little stuff is in there. I had to turn mine upside down in the office yesterday while desperately searching for my ventolin. Out came Dora undies, used tissues, smashed up sultanas. What a disgrace! Loving the idea of the Bali getaway! So great to learn more about Mrs Woog!

  7. Love Kayte’s blog! Can’t believe I still haven’t tried Maggie Beer ice cream, what is wrong with me?!! And … now I have that song stuck in my head, thanks :/

  8. What a lovely down to earth lady! I actually went to an even last year that Kayte was at, but was way to scared to go and say hi. Now I wish I had of!!!

  9. I know someone who used to work with Maggie Beer – does that count? Where I live is not far away from her Barossa farm and shop which is a lovely place to take visitors for lunch – I’ve seen her there a couple of times and my sister bailed her up at a food festival for a photo!

    • That definitely counts. lol Do you know, I just found out that Maggie was in Perth for a book launch around the time of this post. I probably should have mentioned I was a Perth blogger when she got in touch at the time.

  10. Mrs Woogs was one of the first bloggers I discovered way back in 2011 when I started blogging. I love that she’s always so generous with her advice and time.

  11. I met Kayte by accident at Problogger last year & by accident I mean she thought our room had someone else in it….. Anyway, I was totally star struck, she was lovely & indulged us with a chat. I’ve always admired her wit, Woogsworld was one of the first blogs I started reading!

    • I would love to meet her. So envious you made it to Problogger. It’s always when my hubby is away at sea and I don’t have family in the state to mind the girls. I keep saying one year I will make it but I’m giving up on that idea now.
