Mummy, Wife, Me Blog Spotlight Worth Casing Agent Mystery Case

I’m delighted to welcome our latest Worth Casing Blogger, Renee from Mummy, Wife, Me to AMC to discuss the business of blogging.

Mum to two precious girls and wife to one patient man, Renee blogs about life as a mummy and wife and her journey of rediscovery. Renee focuses on building a happy and relaxed environment for her family to grow in, while attempting to not lose sight of herself along the way.

How long have you been blogging and why did you start?

I leapt into the blogosphere on 1 May 2013. I was deep in the trenches of motherhood with a five month old and a two and a half year old. I felt trapped in a mummy fog and feared I’d lost sight of me. I knew I had to snap out of this fog and challenge myself. I wanted to get my brain working again and get back to me. I remembered an article a friend at work had shown me previously about mummy bloggers and decided that it was something I’d like to have a crack at.

Tell us a bit about your blog and what we can expect to see in the next 12 months?

Mummy, Wife, Me is where I write about motherhood, marriage and my journey of rediscovery. I feel lucky to have built a very supportive community of women who love being parents and recognise the everyday beauty in their lives, but who can’t help at times to feel lost and tired and crave some time out to remember and rediscover who they are and to celebrate the person they are becoming.

I want my readers to feel like they can relate to the musings about my life and my own journey through motherhood and marriage and feel like they’re not alone. We’re in this together.

The next 12 months will hopefully bring more great content, more laughs, and a few great giveaways thrown in to boot!

Do you have a favourite place or dedicated space for blogging?

I wish I could tell you I had a perfectly styled office space, but I can’t. I blog at the dinner table while my husband sits a couple of metres from me watching docos. I don’t mind though. There’s plenty of room and it works for me.

What are your must have tools and resources when it comes to blogging?

I’m a pen and paper girl. I carry a notebook in my handbag and have one beside my bed. I’m constantly writing down ideas and phrases. I find things form better for me on paper first and then I transfer them onto the computer.

I’m attempting to learn how to use Canva at the moment to try to make some of my posts more visually appealing. It’s a great tool to create everything from Facebook covers to infographics.

Have you ever experienced blogger’s block and what are your top tips for when it strikes?

Yes, I sure have. The best thing you can do for blogger’s block is to step away from the screen.

Live and love life and the stories will come. Some of my best posts have been reflections on some very simple everyday moments which really aren’t that simple at all.

What have been your blogging highlights and biggest challenges?

This is going to sound corny, but every time someone comments on my blog or interacts with me I consider that a highlight. It is the greatest feeling in the world to receive private messages from people telling me that they can relate and have them share their own stories with me.

My biggest challenge is time. I work part-time in addition to running this blog, plus I have two young children. Oh, and the husband. I suppose I should spend some time with him too 😉

Other than that, I’m a terrible photographer. Just terrible. I suppose it doesn’t help that I don’t own a camera. I will be asking for one for my birthday coming up though.

Who inspires you and what’s on your Worth Casing list when it comes to other bloggers?

Gosh, there are so many people who inspire me on an everyday basis. In the blogging world, I would have to say Create Bake Make and The Plumbette who are reaching new heights with their blogs daily. They are trying new things, putting themselves out there, and working bloody hard to achieve their dreams while they raise young families. It is an honour to call them my friends.

What advice would you give to anyone that is thinking about starting a blog of their own?

Just do it! I ummed and ahhed about starting mine for months before I did. My friend, who has years of blogging experience, told me not to worry about getting it perfect right off the bat. That will come.

I will say though that the time I spent cementing my goals and objectives for this blog has been something that has kept me focused and grounded. I put together a communications strategy and business plan to outline these goals and objectives and to be clear on my blog’s brand from the get go.

What makes a good blog post?

A few of my most popular posts on the blog to date have been Where have my boobs gone?Sometimes you need to get a little drunk and Work in progress. They are stories that are straight from the heart, open and honest. They are stories that people can relate to.

I like to keep my posts between the 400 to 600 word mark and keep my paragraphs on the shorter side to make them easy to read. I like to ask a question at the end of each post to engage my readers.

If you weren’t in the business of blogging what would you be doing?

I currently work part-time in communications where I write media releases, news stories, review and create online content, edit corporate publications, proofread, write speeches, briefs, develop communication strategies and organise events. Phew!
