What would a perfect day look like for you? For me, it would need to start with a good night sleep. One that makes you want to bounce out of bed ready for anything the day throws at you. Something I haven’t exactly been getting for a little while now.
I’ve always had trouble sleeping and for as long as I can remember I’ve been a bit of a night owl. I’d convinced myself that my sleeping habits weren’t that bad but having worn the JAWBONE UP fitness band for 3 months now, where it tracks my sleep as well as fitness (sleep walking my way UP), has really highlighted just how bad the sleep side of things is for me.
The fact of the sleep matter is I average just over 4 hours a night. Which is an improvement to the average 3 to 4 hours sleep I was getting before I started tracking things. I’ve tried almost everything to improve my sleep habits and while there is a slight improvement, it’s still not enough.
I thought a change of scenery might work and by that I mean giving my bedroom a much-needed makeover. Starting with new bedding and possibly new lighting. I’m also going to ban the laptop from the bedroom and get back to reading an old-fashioned book before bed. Perhaps something a tad on the boring side that I can easily put down when it bores me to sleep.
Bedtime, blogging and my most embarrassing moment!
I’m honestly surprised I can continue to function on so little sleep. How many hours do you average a night? Do you have any bed time routines that help you fall asleep?
This week’s prompt for Finding Myself Young’s 52 Weeks of Memories photography challenge is ‘Bed Time’, clearly something I struggle to capture both on and off camera, so I went through my phone and found this photo…
It’s the neighbour’s cat (Pepsi) who has decided to adopt our family for the time being. He has this wonderful ability to sleep and make his bed just about anywhere. Oh how I envy him.
He also takes a pretty mean selfie. I’m actually rather clueless as to who took the photo. I suspect my youngest daughter might have something to do with this one.
WORTH CASING WEDNESDAY
If you have a blog post worth casing this week, this is the place to link up. Are you Worth Casing?
What have you been up to this week and do you have any tips for getting a good night sleep?
Aww! those kitties are adorable heheh!
Have a casetastic week 🙂
Thanks, you too!
Nice cats.
During the week, I average about 4.5 hours of sleep.
Looks like I’m about average then 🙂
Nice images, we all have been there LOL…
Any tips for getting more sleep Jay?
Oh seriously, you’re killing me! I am linking up at 2.30am because I am awake (as usual!). That band sounds fabulous – scary for people like you and I, but fabulous!
Almost midnight here in Perth. I hit publish early hoping for an early night, knowing I have an early start tomorrow.
Thank you for hosting!! Have a great week!! xx Ashleigh
You too Ashleigh. Thanks for linking up.
Sleep is what I always crave for. Lately I am always waking up at night so when I wake up I feel more tired than I was before I sleep. One day I will allot a day for just that uninterrupted sleep.
Almost 2.30 am here and I should be hitting the sack.
That Jawbone band seems to work well. I like that it “talks” to you about your sleep and tries to get you on track. I hope you’ll be able to work out a better sleep pattern. I love to sleep and “bounce” out of bed most mornings bright and early. Do you have a blog hop button yet? I want to add it to my Blog Hops page, but don’t lose sleep over it! 😉
I was just working on the new button. It will be up next week.
I have strange sleeping habits, it did not used to be that way, go to bed at 12 up at 5, now its fall asleep at 7 or 8 and wake at 3 or 4 am, ugh, where did this all go awry, I think because I love the early morning hours, quite, when I can get more done on my blog, lol If I get tired I take a power nap, 20 minutes it good!
Stop by if you have a chance.
Have a great day!!
Heading over to case your blog soon.
4 is not enough – I have average about 5-6 hours unbroken, but once a month I might get 6 hours in a row, now that is amazing. I have to find more about the Jawbone band. As for books, yes do make sure it’s mindless as I try this and it just makes me think more. xxxx
I would love to have access to all the fitness bands and wear them at the same time to see which one is the most accurate.
I have never been a good sleeper, my mind struggles to settle down but eventually I crash and get a good nights rest. This morning I set my alarm to get up for a run, just couldn’t do it.
My mind struggles to settle down too. 4am and I’m close to giving up on sleep tonight. I need to be up in an hour.
Lol get off the computer.
http://umeandthekids.com/struggling-sleep-night-suffering-dsps/ check this post out, might help a little with sleeping
Oh that sucks, sleep is just the most wonderful thing when you get it, and the most devastating thing when you don’t! I get Restless Legs, so stretching before bed helps me.
Restless legs would be no fun.
I’m also having sleep issues. In fact I think it all started since #1 was born till now. I’m trying diffusing essential oils like Lavender before bedtime and it kinda helps as I don’t wake up so many times nowadays and sleep for longer periods. I still only get the max I think 3-4 uninterrupted sleep out of the 6-7 hrs sleep each night and have yet to go back to sleeping through the night again.
I think my issues started after having children as well. I can’t remember the last time I slept right through the night.
Have you tried setting a bedtime alarm yet? I love that my Jawbone vibrates every night at 11 to yell (in my mother’s voice of course) “get your tail in bed girl, or you will regret it in the morning!”
Yes, have set the bedtime alarm and I do go to bed, just can’t seem to switch off and actually sleep.
oh raychael that is terrible!
I could not function with only that amount of sleep!
I’m early to bed and early to rise with the birds!
I’m a stickler for it!
I do my creative writing as soon as I wake up otherwise I loose it!
any ideas for my artworks concepts etc! if I haven’t slept well I’m all foggy!
at this time of the day I’m winding down and I’m usually incoherent! … almost!
I do some meditation to switch off!
I have the room very dark and I wear earplugs!
if things pop into my mind I say … no! … nothing! … this is NOW!
empty my mind! … tomorrow is another day!
I use nature’s own “sleep ezy” if I have any hiccups!
have a beautiful sleep hun! you are worth it! … goodnight! love m:)X
I’m turning my computer off now!
I think I need to do the same thing. I had 7 minutes sleep last night. Mind you I was up due to not being well. Have had a tiny day sleep today and hoping for an early night.
Hi Raychael,
I love a good book and reading before I go to bed. Try it and if it’s boring you will nod off. Works every time. I think the computer makes me too switched on and I find it hard to switch off. Good luck with it.
I’m co-hosting with Karren this month @ Oh My Heartsie Girl’s. Very Excited!!
Julie
Thanks for linking up with #wordlesswednesday co-host – http://www.julieinthemaking.com/
I ended up rather ill last night and only managed 7 minutes sleep. Needless to say today was a write off. Having an early night and hoping to play catch up tomorrow, starting with your WW post. I spotted your gorgeous face on Karren’s WW lineup and was impressed.
I should join you in making an effort to read an actual book at bedtime instead of staring at my cell phone.
Perhaps we should start a book before bed club?!
I think you might be onto something…
Our cats (and dog) seem to be fully relaxed for a nap just about any time. Always makes me jealous!
I’m so envious of this cat and my hubby who can sleep within seconds of hitting the pillow.
I love sleeping. 🙂 http://poshonabudget.com/2015/02/superbowl-spread-cvsgametime-goldemblem-superbowlxlix.htm
My husband is like your cat, he can sleep anytime, anyplace, anywhere. I think a technology free zone in the bedroom will be a big bonus. I’m trying to stop sleeping so near my phone and playing with it before I go to Sleepy Town. I’ve heard that spraying some lavender spray or putting a little lavender oil in your pillow can work a treat too!
My husband is very much like my cat as well. I might need to find some lavender spray.
My perfect day would be after a good night’s sleep too! Having a stressful job I usually go to bed worrying or thinking about everything I haven’t done/have to do. I don’t have caffeine after midday as I won’t be able to sleep that night. We now have rules not to watch illuminated screens (iphone/ipads etc) in bed before sleep. Instead we read ‘real’ books and it makes a world of difference as I can immerse myself in my reading and forget about work.
I’ve recently cut back on the coffee as well. I must make more of an effort with screen time after a certain hour.
Agreed. Sleep is so important. I conk out at 8 or 9! I can’t believe my fourth graders who stay up till 10 or 11!

My girls are pretty good sleepers. Although the eldest (16) is starting to stay up a lot later than I would like.
I am just as bad as you when it comes to sleep. If I get more than 4 hours of sleep every night it was a “good night.” About once a week the sleeplessness catches up to me and my brain turns to mush and then I will get 8 hours of sleep! It is enough to drive a sane person mad!
My bedroom picture would be close to the same except my hubby would not have a laptop in front of him he’d just be sound asleep as I plug away late into the early mornings. Thanks for sharing your inability to sleep it’s nice to know I’m not alone! 😉
Thank you for linking up to the Oh My Heartsie Girls Wordless
Wednesday Linky Party!
Wishing you a fabulous week!
Much love,

Hubby doesn’t normally bring the laptop to bed, this was a rare occasion which resulted in a rather embarrassing moment. You can read all about that if you click on the link under the photo.
I will go read it now! Not sure how I missed that one?!?! lol 😉
