IN THE SACK | 12 DAYS OF GIVEAWAYS with Agent Mystery Case DAY 7 Project Positive

IN THE SACK this silly season with Agent Mystery Case

Helping you survive the silly season one blog post and giveaway at a time!

Today we hand the blog over to Anastasia Amour, who offers her top tips for keeping things positive this silly season, especially if you are someone like me who has been dreading all things Christmas since the decorations hit the stores in September.

Ahhh Christmas…. a time for cheer, good company and good tidings.

But when you hear the carols playing non-stop in the shops, see glittering ornaments everywhere you go and strategically plan your gift list, it’s not Christmas cheer that you’re filled with. It feels unnatural to be one of the “grinches”, after all, this is meant to be the most wonderful time of the year, right?

Fear not – if you find yourself dreading December, here are 3 easy ways you can stay positive during the silly season:

1. Remind yourself of how wonderful your life is by spending time with those less fortunate than you.

All the consumerism and shopping madness can leave you feeling a little drained, but helping someone is sure to fill you with positive vibes and a cheery spirit. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities around the place, or you can offer to assist at your nearest shelter.

2. Think about what you do like about the holiday season.

You might hate Christmas carols, but you’ve got to admit that your mum’s famous Christmas pudding is pretty damn delicious. Focus on the parts of Christmas that you do like, and allow those thoughts to have more power over you than your negative Christmas thoughts.

3. Take it as an opportunity to relax.

Many people feel pressured to spend time with family members and old friends and that neighbour that used to live next to them when they were 5 years old, and every other human they’ve ever met, in the weeks surrounding Christmas. And whilst it’s great to catch up with people, there’s also nothing wrong with taking a break to spend some time by yourself. You worked hard all year, and you deserve a break! This is a great way to nip a case of “I can’t stand my insane family” syndrome right in the bud.

If you can teach yourself to look for the positives in every situation, you’ll be able to breeze through the silly season. And if all else fails, just help yourself to an extra large glass of Christmas punch, sit back and marvel at the pandemonium!

  1. I’m looking forward to watching Mr 5s eyes light up when he sees that Santa has been. I love the excitement of it all and if it was up to me he’d still believe in Santa when he was 18, it’s just magical seeing it through a kids eyes.
I think that imperfect would be the perfect tattoo for me. My perfectionism and surrounding anxiety stops me from doing so many things, so it would be nice to have a reminder that it’s ok to be imperfect.

    • We have a saying in our house ‘if you stop believing the gifts stop’ which possibly isn’t the best plan of attack to keep the magic alive.

I’ve gone with enough for several reasons. Mainly though, it was the word I used a lot when I wrote that ‘social media free’ keeping it real blog post that more than touched on my health issues and how they were impacting my life. I need to remind myself that enough is enough and more importantly what I have in front of me is enough. I’m enough. 🙂

  2. I’m looking forward to Christmas day itself. There is so much angst in the lead up and on the day we can just let it all go and enjoy. I love the food, the peace and the ability to relax on Christmas day. We don’t have set meals, rather I just prepare lots of food. Help yourself whenever you feel the need to.With the children this gives us some really lovely time off.

I want the enough tat. They are such a lovely idea. xS

    • Getting a tat has been on my bucket list for a little while. My girls are all horrified. We only have to go near a tattoo place and they start shuffling me along to the other side of the street. I might need to pretend my Enough tattoo is a real one and have a bit of fun with them.

  3. Such a sweet idea, it took me ages to pick but I think I’ll go with imperfect 🙂
Im most looking forward to not hosting a lunch for 30 family this year! Instead I’ll be sleeping in, relaxing and enjoy a lazy summer break from work

      • God no! It was the very first time with a combination of mine and my partners family. Our turn wont come around again for about 6 years so that is a big sigh of relief!

  4. I love the enough one – such a fabulous idea. I am looking forward to the kids joy and excitement Christmas morning and I am REALLY looking forward to the end of Christmas day when the 27 people I am hosting for Christmas lunch head home – don’t get me wrong I am really looking forward to seeing them all but I have only done about 12 for Christmas before so it will be an interesting feat 🙂

    • I love the enough one too. Oh my to hosting 27 people for Christmas. I’m not so secretly glad that we are 4000km away from extended family now and my boxing day celebrations are just us. It’s a lot of work. Hope you enjoy your day.

  5. I love the ‘enough’ tattoo, to remind me that I am enough, that what I am doing is enough, that I have enough. I look forward to sitting down outside with a cold drink and all of my family after the kids have gone to bed on Christmas Eve.

  6. Cute temp ink! I’m generally pretty positive and when I’m not I just figure it’s time for a short wearing of the cranky pants. Everyone deserves a down day here and there. x

  7. I love the imperfect. I try to enjoy not being perfect (its extremely hard) but It makes me feel good when I fall short of my own expectations. I am looking forward to watching my childrens eyes light up when they see Santa and his reindeers have eaten the cookies we have left out.

  8. I love not having to set an alarm and just going with the flow and catching up family and friends.
I really like the idea of the word ‘enough’…I need to remember this..”I am enough”…I think this needs to be my new mantra!

  9. Although it may be cliché to say it but I most look forward to time spent with family over the Christmas break. My husband is one of 11 children, each with their own kids so it can be difficult to get us all together at the same time. Christmas is always the exception!

I like the idea of the “UNSTOPPABLE” tattoo. Nothing can get in my way!

  10. I look forward to going home to bed on Christmas day. Just thinking of the mess and cleaning up makes me want to crawl into bed. Are we there yet?

I love the FEARLESS tattoo. I’d wear it on my collar bone to distract people at meetings.

  11. I think I relate or at least need to relate more to Beautiful. I’m looking forward to Christmas day and Christmas in general, I love this time of year with a passion.

  12. The thing I look forward to the most at Christmas is seeing the faces of those I love when I give them their gifts. I put a lot of pride into finding the absolute perfect gift for each person. And then of course to spend time with that person is just as wonderful.

I love the ‘FEARLESS’ tattoo. That’s definitely something I need to be reminded of from time to time. My sister and I have matching ‘Life wont wait’ tattoos as a tribute to our friend who passed, and as a reminder to ourselves that life wont stop and wait for anything, you have to live while you can.

  13. I really look forward to everything about Christmas. I see my family all of the time but at Christmas it’s just a different feeling. It’s so special! I love all the tips in this post and would wear the fearless tattoo. Shannon x

  14. I rather like enough as well, it would remind me that I am enough. I’m looking forward to having some time off this Christmas.
Must say, I’m loving all of your giveaways.

  15. Christmas is a wonderful time of year for our family, we always make an effort to come together on the day and have done for as long as I can remember.
As far as the tattoo, I love them all but leaning towards unstoppable to gift to a work friend who is going through a rough time.
